Policy Roundtable on Enabling Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency in Aluminium and Cement Sectors

The ASPIRE Programme, in collaboration with the BEE organised a Policy Roundtable in Bureau of Energy Efficiency Office,Sewa Bhawan, New Delhi on 9th June 2023. The policy roundtable focused on‘Enabling circular economy and resource efficiency in Aluminium & Cement sectors: Utilising spent pot lining and other waste products of Aluminium sector’. The primaryobjectives of the policy roundtable were (1) Explore SPL's potential in the circular economy and assess suitable approaches and technologies; (2) Identify policy interventions for safe SPL disposal or reprocessing; (3) Address challenges in SPL management, including safety and regulatory compliance; (4) Foster collaboration for sustainable SPL management, enhancing resource efficiency and reducing environmental impact. A one-day sectoral workshop was jointly organised by FCDO and the BEE with the support of Raymond Ltd. Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh on 8th December 2022. The workshop covered various aspects of the PAT scheme and new emerging technologies (e.g., waterless dyeing) in Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization. A Domestic Study Tour-Visit of Iron & Steel Plant

A Study Tour/ Visit of Godawari Power & Ispat Limited (GPIL) was organised under ASPIRE Programme with the support of GPIL on 20th April 2023. (GPIL) is the flagship company of Raipur-based HIRA Group. It was incorporated in 1999 with the objective of setting up an integrated steel plant that included captive power generation. Commercial operations began in 2001 with the commissioning of the first Sponge Iron plant. GPIL is the largest manufacturer of iron ore pellets in central India and has production facilities for Sponge Iron, billets, Ferro alloys, wire rods, steel wires, and a Captive power Generating Facility that uses WHRB (Waste Heat Recovery Boilers), AFBC (Atmospheric Fluidized Bed Combustion), Biomass & Solar Power. The Study Tour/ Visit played a crucial role in fostering dialogue and developing an understanding of Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation measures taken by GPIL Plant. A one-day Iron & Steel sectoral workshop was organised under ASPIRE Programme. The sectoral workshop on “Best Practices in Energy Efficiency & Decarbonisation in Iron & Steel Sector” was organised at Hotel Babylon Capital, Raipur, Chhattisgarh on 19thApril 2023 with the support of Godawari Power & Ispat Limited (GPIL). The workshop deliberated on some innovative measures adopted by Indian Iron & Steelmanufacturers and new-age technologies and solutions required to accelerate the decarbonisation of the Iron & Steel sector. A Domestic Study Tour-Visit of Cement Plant

A Study Tour/ Visit of Udaipur Cement Works Limited (UCWL) was organised under ASPIRE Programme with the support of UCWL on 15th March 2023. UCWL is situated in the beautiful city of Lakes, Udaipur, Rajasthan, the company operates an integrated Cement Manufacturing unit with an installed production capacity of 2.2 million tons per annum (MTPA) and has ingrained "Sustainable Development" as a key ethos in its daily business activities, led by its Integrated Sustainable Development Policy. UCWL meets more than 48% of its total electricity requirement from green renewable sources, i.e., solar and waste heat recovery systems (WHRS). The Study Tour/ Visit played a crucial role in fostering dialogue and developing an understanding of Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation measures taken by UCWL Plant. The workshop deliberated on some innovative measures adopted by Indian cement manufacturers and new-age technologies and solutions required to accelerate the decarbonisation of the cement sector. The iDeeksha portal was launched by the Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy Shri R.K. Singh during the 21st Foundation Day Event of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on 1st Mar 23 in Delhi. iDeeksha (Industrial Decarbonisation and Energy Efficiency Knowledge Sharing Platform) has been developed under the UK-India bilateral programme - Accelerating Smart Power and Renewable Energy in India (ASPIRE), which is being implemented by Foreign Commonwealth and Development office, Government of UK in association with the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The iDeeksha portal has been developed in collaboration with the BEE to promote and share best practices & energy-efficient technologies among large energy intensive industries. iDeeksha portal is a one-stop shop for all energy efficiency needs of large industries covered under BEE's PAT Scheme and would facilitate in several areas, including the following: · Exchange of knowledge, information and best practices on energy management to enhance peer to peer learning · Enable Designated Consumers (DCs) in adopting new and emerging industrial energy efficiency and decarbonisation (IEED) technologies and best practices available in India and globally including from the UK Date: 1 st March 2023 Documents: © 2023 iDeeksha.in. The workshop covered various aspects of the aluminium sector such as the impact of the PAT scheme, aluminium smelting, alumina refinery, captive power generation, circular economy, and new emerging technologies (e.g., inert anode).
